An hair algae outbroke started a few months ago, with the introduction of more than 10 tangs, together with brushing out the excess algae with tooth brushes, the algae problem seems to be under control. |

pH, day and nite,
8.1 to 8.3, ORP, 325 mv, NO3, 0-5 ppm ammonia and
nitrite, zero Temperature, 25 C Salinity = 1.023-1.024 Ca
= 420-450ppm PO4 <0.1ppm KH = 10-11 Additives Used I dose 7 drops of each of following 1. Iodine, 2. Kent trace elements And I dose 6 drops of Kent chelated iron and 12 drops of Kent Molydenum and Stronium every morning and 2 liters of Kalwasser every nite to compensate evaporated water and calcium. I tried to dose Vital Gold last few weeks I found the nitrate level rises to about 12-15 ppm. I think it may due to the amino acids and nitrogen containing vitamins. So, I stopped to add it and use AZNO3. The nitrate falls to my "normal" level within 7 days. Thanks AZNO3. Feeding I only feed the fishes about once a week using frozen brine shrimp. Equippments: Chiller, 2 X 150W 10000K HQI bulbs, 1 Actinic tube, venturi skimmer, sump, calcium reactor(of course the CO2 set connected), cooling fan Inhabitants: Fishes: Flameangle, bicolor, Yellow tang, purple tang, 2 damsels, 1 clownfish, and several fishes that I know know the name. Crustacean: 4 cleaner shrimps Stony corals: Elegance coral, 2 hammer corals, 3 Fine grape corals, bubble coral, 2 button corals, 3 brain corals, 2 Flowerpot corals, 2 Mushroom Corals, 1 Orange cup coral, 1 plate coral Soft corals: 2 Strawberry corals, 1 leather coral, 1 Nephthea, 1 yellow polyps, 3 Discosoma, 2 pipe organ corals, 1 finger coral, 1 Xenia spp. |

| Fishman | 1995 | 600L Fish | My marine tank is about 150x60x60 cm in size. It has been built up for 3 years. At present, its function is pretty good. The species include half moon angelfish, french, queen, king, flame angelfish, jewel fish, wimplefish, forcepsfish, threadfin butterflyfish (red sea) and golden butterflyfish. Right now, the main problem of my tank is the overgrowth of the red algae. The nitrate level is still higher than 10 ppm even though I changed water frequently. The nitrate and phosphate remover also had been applied for two weeks. So, if you have any better suggestion, please let me known. thanks. | |

Fishes are doing fine and trying to get corals to grow, the corals are just staying the way they are, expanding in the day and reducing at night, no growth have been observed. Currently dripping 1 litre of Calcium Hydroxide every night and regularly adding iodine, strontium and maintaining KH at 10-12, PH have been flunctuating from 8-8.3 I welcome any questions or comments. |

| Kurt & Greta Tella | 1999 | 600L Reef+Fish | Greta and I are
experienced freshwater aquarists. We set up our first
marine fish tank in July using an old 20-gal tank.
We liked it, so in early September we set up a 150-gal
tank for both reef & fish. That's makes the
tank about two months old. I HAVE NEVER ENJOYED A
HOBBY SO MUCH IN MY LIFE! We have added 100+ pounds
of live rock. Fish are limited to 6 damsels, 5
clowns, a Yellow Tang, and a very energetic cleaner
wrasse. We have some shrimp and lots of snails and
crabs. We added a brittle star last week. We
have a candy cane coral, several varieties of mushrooms,
a long tenacle and a Sebae anemone, and several varieties
of polyps. All are doing well. We are using a
Turboflotor 1000 protein skimmer. A Hagen 802
powerhead moves the water. I filled an old Fluval
303 canister with plastic media and a Marineland Emporer
with some filter material to collect debri. We're
not using any biological or carbon media. The water
sparkles!! We're using four ! 30-watt 20,000K CoralLife fluorescent lamps and two 15-watt actinics for lighting. I'll add more if the anemones show any signs of deterioration. So far, they're doing well. Also, the tank is situated in a corner of the house where sun light is available from the back and one end all day. I'm adding a calcium supplement daily, as well as iodine and strontium weekly. Also, I'm using a Kent Marine liquid invertabrae supplement every other day or so. I'll send photos when we get some nice ones. That's it for now. We look forward to receiving e-mail and enjoying the club. Kurt & Greta |
